Our beginnings
as NWI

Rios, whose family immigrated to the U.S. from El Salvador when she was a child, became involved with the waste removal business while attending the University of Houston. Like all successful entrepreneurs, Maria identified a niche that wasn’t being serviced, and took action. Immediately upon graduation, she purchased two trucks and launched Nation Waste.

In 2017, Nation Waste launched a new division, Nation Safety Net, which leverages a technology based sensor driven solution powered by IBM Watson IoT. In the U.S. nearly 5,000 people die and approximately 27 million work days are lost each year because of injuries in the workplace. To keep workers safe and mitigate the cost of workplace injuries, Nation Safety Net, uses environmental sensors and wearable devices to identify potential dangers and to help employees avoid injury.
